‘100 Ka Dum’

Chocolates, flowers, movies, interesting reads, a lucky draw....

Sounds like a perfect set up for a fun party ...isn’t it?

What if, we say.... the above said is an event where more than 100 people gathered under one roof to do some serious business - get a health checkup done?

Astounded? Sure you must be but it is true indeed!

100 Ka Dum (stop confusing it for a masala Bollywood flick...though the name may sound like one!!) was an exceptional event where Indus successfully accomplished a record number of checkups (106 to be precise) in a single day under one roof on 14th August.

Thought behind it...

There were not one but two motives in organizing this event.

One. Healthcare and especially preventive health checkup is always seen as a grey and gloomy area.

People do not look forward to it or get excited about going through the whole process of giving blood & urine samples and to be surrounded by complex machines scanning through the body.

So, the idea was to make clients undergo life saving health checkups in an ambiance which is friendly, comfortable and welcoming, giving them a complete feel-good experience.

Two. Establish Indus’ strength and potential. When we say our processes are seamless and operational capabilities, efficient - we better demonstrate that as well!

Scheduling, coordinating, processing, performing and reporting for more than 100 clients in one day under one roof is definitely not a cakewalk! But we wanted to take that as challenge and attest our capabilities.

And thankfully meticulous planning, sufficient number of manpower deployment, enough doctors/other technical staff and ample inventory made us execute this event and turn it into a huge success by carrying it out effortlessly and delivering reports on the same day (as promised) to 100+ people.

Well.... we must say that was undoubtedly a ‘Good Job Done’!!

Venue

In Pune, which better premise could it be than Sahyadri Speciality Hospital in Deccan to organize an event of this scale.

Deccan Sahyadri is a centrally located and well equipped state-of-the-art hospital, big enough to accommodate and cater to numerous people without any glitch.

The set up!

The waiting lounge for clients was decorated keeping in mind the Independence Day, which was just a day after. Tricolor balloons adorned the whole place. Well groomed staff welcomed the clients with fresh roses.

The clients were given a 'goodie bag' which comprised of a mineral water bottle, chocolates, interesting books & other reading material and a special ‘Thank You’ note.
Appetizing paav bahji and tea in the breakfast was served to them.

Once the checkup process started, clients were ushered and escorted to respective areas for sample collection and other test procedures, exhibiting absolute hand-holding service.

Movies like Rang De Basanti and Chak De kept the clients entertained while they were waiting for their turns and later, for reports.

Contest Time!

As an icing on the cake a draw was conducted amongst the clients. Four lucky winners bagged a FREE Indus Essentia Package, which can be utilized either by them or can be gifted to anyone in the family.

Outcome

106 clients who took part in the mega event left Sahyadri Hospital as the brand ambassadors of Indus to spread the message of prevention far and wide.

Happy. Content. Pleased.

Each one of them pledged to encourage more and more people – family, friends, colleagues, neighbours - anyone & everyone to go for regular preventive chechkups, so that fatal diseases can be detected early and treated better!

And to do so, who else but the Preventive Specialists of India - Indus Health Plus.

When It Rains, It Pours Diseases!

rainy-season-health

rainy-season-diseases

Overcast sky, light drizzle, greenery all around as never before, yummy snacks and piping hot tea... all this creates a perfect setup for being - HAPPY!!
Rains have always been known to bring freshness, gaiety and instil that feel-good-factor for nothing specific.
But don’t all good things come with a little bad?
Rainy season provide a perfect breeding ground for germs which may lead to several  diseases affecting a lot of people in that season. Here is a list of different type of monsoon related illnesses, conditions, their symptoms and effective ways to prevent it.

Diseases related to monsoon can be classified in several categories such as
Water Borne - Cholera, Typhoid, Hepatitis A, Diarrhoea
All these diseases are caused by drinking water which is contaminated with human or animal faeces, which contains bacteria, virus or protozoa. The pathogens reach the large intestine through food or water and manifest the diseases.

dengue
Vector Borne – Malaria, Dengue, Chikungunya
These diseases are caused by vectors such as mosquitoes, ticks or sandflies which play an active role in the transmission of a pathogen from one host to the other.

Due to Exposure to Water/Rain: Hypothermia, Respiratory tract infections, Leptospirosis
Due to constant exposure with rain and stagnated water several infections are contracted due to close association with animals and dirty water (Leptospirosis).

Sudden Drop in temperature may also influence health of people, especially those who are allergic to cold or are asthmatics.

Viral respiratory tract infections also rise in this season as people tend to get wet often which again may lead to infection.

Miscellaneous -
During monsoons drowning is the leading cause of death in floods.
Electrocution and electric shocks can also take place when there is flooding
Monsoon brings increased accidents especially with two-wheelers.

Prevention
  • Drink water only from the sources you trust to be clean because during monsoon the dirty water gets mixed with sewage and soil, causing infections. Make drinking water safe by boiling, filtering and by using purifiers.
  • Check stagnation of water near house in flower pots, old tyres, coolers etc. Use insect repellents, disinfectants and other measures to stay away from mosquitoes, flies, cockroaches and termites.
  • Clean your leafy vegetables under running water, soak them in potassium permanganate or steam them to get rid of germs.
  •
  • Avoid eating roadside food items such as cut fruits, chaat, pani puris
  • Eat only freshly prepared food
  • Special attention is required for feet to avoid fungal feet. Keep them dry.
  • Wash your hands before handling and eating food and after visiting washroom.

Lunch Box !!

They say, “A man's way to his heart is through stomach”.

We agree no less and so we tapped that route to deliver our message of cancer prevention.

Clever indeed na!!

And guess who joined us in doing so? None but Mumbai’s very own, good old dabbawals - the biggest network of hand delivered tiffin box service from home to work place!!

3rd February, 2014, a day before the world celebrated Caner Day, Indus organized an event where Mr. Amol Naikawadi along with Mr. Raghunath Medge, President of Mumbai Dabbawala Association initiated the “Be Alert to Avert - The Fight Against Cancer ” campaign by flagging off hundreds of dabbawalas from Church Gate Station on the western line.

The plan was simple and set.

Each dabbawal wore Indus’ cancer prevention message T-shirt, tagged their respective tiffin boxes with cancer information, inserted cancer message tissue papers in the lunch box covers and zipped off to do what they do best – delivering lunch boxes to people who are at work, on time.

This way, the message of cancer prevention reached to around 1.5 lakh people along with their lunchboxes. The campaign was aimed to educate people on the importance of early detection and prevention of cancer and along with debunking myths related to cancer.

The event was a huge success!!

Now, have a look at these STARTLING STATS!!

* Each year, approximately 7 lakh die of cancer

* 10 lakh gets newly diagnosed with cancer

* More women than men are getting detected

* 1/3rd of the cancers are absolutely PREVENTABLE

* 1 in 22 in cites & 1 in 60 women in rural areas suffer from breast cancer

* Only 5%-10% cancers are hereditary, rest can be controlled by early detection

The best possible way to not fall prey to this deadly disease is by cutting down the risk factors and catching it early, if at all it catches you!

Early detection not only saves life but also a lot of money, mental ordeal & physical trauma

Go for regular preventive health checkups to find any abnormal changes happening in the body.
